Lidiya's Little Girls Bag

We will be attending the concert of the Australian Girls Choir concert tomorrow.  Our friend's little girl Lidiya is performing.

This deserves a gift, one that I can make quickly to give to her tomorrow. Something, every five year old needs, surely? A handbag of her own.

So, I searched online and found this pattern:

Problem was, that one of the pattern pieces could not be downloaded (blank page).  I didn't have time to think about drafting, so I moved onto:

Buttercup Bag made by Rae at madebyrae.blogspot.com:

Ok, all pattern pieces accounted for? Yes, then begin.  Only, I didn't entirely like either pattern better than the other.

So this is what I did.

I used the Buttercup bag pattern.

However, I inserted a gusset from Ruby's Party Bag (I had to add length to this)

Instead of inserting five pleats, I added one box pleat in the middle of the bag.

As for fabric I decided that for a six year old girl the fabric had to be bright, so I searched my stash and found this:

The cat fabric will be the outer layer and the stripes for the lining.

 This is the finished bag:

I'm happy with the finished bag, I hope she will be to.

I'm going to put some children's lip gloss and some junk jewellery in it to make her feel all grown up.

Enjoyed doing this bag, quick, easy and effective.

Happy sewing everyone.

Sandra
